There has been a lot of moaning, groaning, screaming and the like since Arizona put a new law into effect with regard to law enforcement and illegal immigrants. Let us not focus on all the noise surrounding the new law, but rather let us focus on why the people of Arizona felt that it was necessary in the first place.
The United States, as a sovereign nation, has the absolute right to determine who shall and shall not be admitted into this country. In fact, there are many laws, rules and regulations that make it clear who may enter, who may work here, when you must leave, if you can stay and how you can become a citizen, if you so choose.
Anyone who enters the United States without following the prescribed rules and procedures, does so illegally. In the United States, when a person commits an illegal act, they are subject to the punishment for that illegal act. The rules apply equally to everyone.
Unfortunately, the federal government has not enforced the immigration laws of this nation with anything resembling the force that is necessary to keep the integrity of this nation's laws intact. The result is that the immigration laws are routinely flouted and the number of illegal immigrants continues to skyrocket.
In Arizona, the immigrants flooding the state come from Mexico, Central America and other countries to the south. So it is only common sense that the law enforcement authorities would be on the lookout for persons from these areas of the world, when enforcing the law. This is not racial profiling, as the detractors would have you think. The use of the words "racial profiling" are designed to inflame passions rather than have logic and rational thought prevail. Of course you aren't going to look for Europeans or Asians when the bulk of the illegals in the state are from Hispanic nations.
Everyone needs to take a deep breath and chill and THINK before reacting with emotion. Remember, illegal immigration is just that...ILLEGAL. And one other thing...this would not be a problem at all if life in the countries from which they come were anywhere near decent. We can be sorry that the governments of these south of the border countries do not see fit to employ policies that benefit the well-being of their citizens. But their failings are not the fault of the United States and we are not responsible for taking up their slack. If anything, the south of the border countries should be embarrassed that so many of their citizens will do anything to come to the United States. It shows how badly their governments have performed.
